To our Emmaus brothers and sisters, You
may or may not know this but since our Walks are held at Camp Agape we
are obligated to commit to having a Walk at least 60 days before the
Walk date. In other words, the men's Walk on Sept. 20-23 must have at
least 20 pilgrims signed up by July 20 or we have to cancel the Walk. If
we do not have at least 20 pilgrims by July 20 we must cancel the Walk
and lose our deposit of $2300. But if we have to cancel within the final
60 day period we will be responsible for the entire cost of the Walk
which is about $9500. So cancelling a Walk after we pay our deposit
results in losing at least $2300 and possibly about $9500. So I hope you
can see the importance of getting pilgrims to commit to a Walk early. As
of this date, we have 4 men signed up for the September Walk. We have 4
months to get that number to at least 20. This announcement is not just
for men's Walks but it seems we have been having problem with having
enough men to fill Walks. The
Board of Directors has a responsibility to be good stewards of the
community's money so I hope you can see the importance of filling Walks
early. Our community has seen a revitalization in the last couple years
and we cannot afford to lapse back into the situation that led to the
cancellation of many Walks. Our
community has had 136 Walks and a large percentage of those have been
full with waiting lists. We can do that again but it is totally reliant
on the community committing to sponsor pilgrims for the Walk to Emmaus.
We all know how impactful the Walk to Emmaus has been on our lives,
